In addition to teaching bookmaking and printmaking, I welcome people to schedule private studio time with me where we can explore either collage, printmaking or bookmaking at our leisure with guided support and all materials provided. Cost is $25 an hour.
In these classes, participants will explore the many uses of geli plates (mono printing with out a press using soft gel “plates”) to create layered artwork on paper. Whether you want to create designs for bookmaking and collage or work on a narrative piece, this workshop offers a variety of techniques. We will use common, everyday items like lace, onion bags or wallpaper samples to explore the use of texture. We will create a "rainbow roll" for blended backgrounds and try gel mediums for transparency. Students will also be able to design their own stencils and add repeatable images to your work. No previous experience is necessary to enjoy this creative process and all levels are welcome to join. All materials included. Sarah has been working with geli plates for over 5 years and has developed a few distinct techniques.
Center for Wisdom’s Women
My involvement at the Center for Wisdom’s Women began in 2010 as an intern while I was a chaplaincy student at ChIME (the Chaplaincy Institute of Maine). I volunteered once a week mainly doing art with the women. I helped the center develop Wisdom boxes as a fundraiser and continue to support the center by sharing decorative papers and offering bookmaking classes to the women every other month.
The Wisdom Boxes have become one of the Center’s most lucrative fundraisers. Beginning with a match box, matches taken out, boxes painted and covered with decorative papers and embellished by the women at the center, wisdom sayings are tucked into the box. This project has empowered women to be a part of creative fundraising for the Center.
